Adaption leads to Adoption
Hello,
I was recently asked to write a whakataukī, (see definition below) on the subject of Adaption. and wanted to share the energy of it here, because I think it captures this time we are in.
whakataukī Meaning:
1. (verb) (-tia) to utter a proverb.
2. (noun) proverb, significant saying, formulaic saying, cryptic saying, aphorism. Like whakatauākī and pepeha they are essential ingredients in whaikōrero.
(Te Pihinga Textbook (Ed. 2): 31-32; Te Kōhure Textbook (Ed. 2): 38-39;)
ADAPTION
We are all continually adapting to life and circumstances everyday. Just like the wise sailor does not curse the wind, they just adjust their sails, tacking them daily where required.
Adaption can be a bridge to a smoother road ahead, smoother seas or to an end goal, it can be a tweak in the diet or a bigger recalibration of how we use our time, energy and skills moving forward.
However; ADAPTION LEADS TO ADOPTION. So discernment is key especially in todays world. So be conscious in what you accept or find yourself adapting to daily, because daily habits make a life.
If it is not authentic to you or for the greater good surrounding you and humanity, then sometimes its not about adapting, its about alchemising, equalising and /or pausing until your sails are pointing in the right direction for you.
I encourage you to go forth and be fully conscious in what you are or are not adapting to; either out of habit, necessity or laziness. Consider that no action is also a form of adaption, the risk of becoming a slow boiled frog, through a slight rise in temperature daily, until it is too late to jump out of the pot. It can be the same slow boil for our food health and sovereignty, or your privacy and freedom of choice rights. We can not always control the high seas, but we can apply critical thinking into what we are slowly adapting too, before it leads to adoption.
Peace be with you
Sonia
